Wrap your hair in a durag or wave cap every night. Cotton pillowcases create friction against the braids and soften the edges faster than anything else. A durag keeps the parts flat, protects the hairline, and extends the clean look by at least a week.
Use a light oil (jojoba or a dedicated scalp spray) applied directly to the scalp every 3 to 4 days. Twists on natural hair need moisture to stay defined and prevent the surface from going dull and dry. Too much product at the root creates buildup; just enough keeps the scalp comfortable and the style looking intentional.
Do not over-moisturize between retwists. A dry scalp oil applied to the scalp (not the locs themselves) is enough between appointments. Excessive product inside the locs traps debris and leads to buildup that accumulates over time. Keep the scalp hydrated, keep the locs clean, and let the retwist do the work on schedule.
